How to engineer humans to tolerate high stress / Ask a Rat

Article after article involves research that celebrates the goal of chemically or genetically altering humans to survive increasingly unhealthy levels of stress. It would appear that engineering a human who can be permanently embedded in a war zone and subjected to ongoing trauma, without developing PTSD or other mental damage,  is the desired outcome that will make perpetual war possible.

The issue is never, “How do we reduce stress in the environment to a level that promotes healthy children and adults?” We know that stress causes disease, mental instability and kills thousands of human beings each year, and yet the social drive is to increase the stress in people’s lives. This is a social problem.  


A new brain-based marker of stress susceptibility

Some people can handle stressful situations better than others, and it’s not all in their genes: Even identical twins show differences in how they respond.

Researchers have identified a specific electrical pattern in the brains of genetically identical mice that predicts how well individual animals will fare in stressful situations.


The findings, published July 29 in Nature Communications, may eventually help researchers prevent potential consequences of chronic stress—such as , depression and other psychiatric disorders—in people who are prone to these problems.

“In soldiers, we have this dramatic, major stress exposure, and in some individuals it’s leading to major issues, (that’s gross understatement) such as problems sleeping or being around other people,” said senior author Kafui Dzirasa, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University Medical Center and a member of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. “If we can find that common trigger or common pathway and tune it, we may be able to prevent the emergence of a range of mental illnesses down the line.”

In the new study, Dzirasa’s team analyzed the interaction between two interconnected brain areas that control fear and stress responses in both mice and men: the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala. The amygdala plays a role in the ‘fight-or-flight’ response. The prefrontal cortex is involved in planning and other higher-level functions. It suppresses the amygdala’s reactivity to danger and helps people continue to function in stressful situations. (That is, it “allows” humans to be subjected to levels of abuse that are more and more extreme. This is negative and harmful artificial adaptation.))

Implanting electrodes into the brains of the mice allowed the researchers to listen in on the tempo at which the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala were firing and how tightly the two areas were linked—with the ultimate goal of figuring whether the electrical pattern of cross talk could help decide how well animals would respond when faced with an acute stressor.

Indeed, in mice that had been subjected to a chronically stressful situation—daily exposure to an aggressive male mouse for about two weeks—the degree to which the prefrontal cortex seemed to control amygdala activity was related to how well the animals coped with the stress, the group found. (Is “seemed to” a scientific term?)

Next the group looked at how the brain reacted to the first instance of stress, before the mice were put in a chronically stressful situation. The mice more sensitive to showed greater activation of their -amygdala circuit, compared with resilient mice. (Another backwards “experiment” The result yields the hypothesis.)

“We were really both surprised and excited to find that this signature was present in the animals before they were chronically stressed,” Dzirasa said. “You can find this signature the very first time they were ever exposed to this aggressive dangerous experience.”

Dzirasa hopes to use the signatures to come up with potential treatments for stress. “If we pair the signatures and treatments together, can we prevent symptoms from emerging, even when an animal is stressed? That’s the first question,” he said.

The group also hopes to delve further into the brain, to see whether the circuit-level patterns can interact with genetic variations that confer risk for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia. The new study will enable Dzirasa and other basic researchers to segregate stress-susceptible and resilient animals before they are subjected to stress and look at their molecular, cellular and systemic differences. (That is, the animals are killed and dissected: Remember that this information can supposedly be valid to humans; will “stress susceptible individuals” be segregated and subjected to alteration of their brains?)

  1. Normdom does not see our ‘subhuman and defective status’ as fraud.

    It merely perceives what is obvious (to most Normies). More, this perception is mostly (perhaps, entirely) an unconscious matter – one which chiefly manifests to individual Norms as ‘I don’t like so-and-so’ – with your average Norm only seeing that final end result (and making up an explanation to justify the feeling. “The feeling comes first; the explanation follows.”)

    No particular reason is needed to substantiate that ‘feeling’ – it just registers as something resembling a dashboard trouble-light, and your average Normie buys that ‘numb-light’ without considering ought save how to obey said light’s prompting. (More or less how an individual with little working knowledge of automobiles ‘obeys unthinkingly’ the ‘check-engine’ light -“must see dealer as soon as is practicable.”)

    The chief thing autists need to understand is the firmware BEHIND that numb-light prompting – as only then can we do something productive about Normdom’s instinctual tendencies *that* way.

  2. Normdom doesn’t do *that* type of fraud – simply because such instinct-driven ***doublethinkers*** do so automatically.

    Just like most Normies reliably understand matters like ‘all truth is #defined’ (e.g. 2 + 2 = 5, simply because one’s ranking superior has said it is so), and ‘all rules are arbitrary’ (because there are no ‘rights’ in the social world – only privileges, which acrue on the basis of one’s social rank, and which exist and vanish at the whims of one’s superiors)

    The reason we (autists) are seen as lesser beings is that we cannot game the social ‘system’ in an (instinctual) Normal fashion – unlike Normies.

    An obvious corollary to this last statement is ‘one’s place in the dominance hierarchy is largely a function of how adept one is at (predatory) deception and manipulation.)

    Hence, ‘to be psychopathic in form and vision is the highest goal of Normie society’ – and by extension, Normdom’s deities are all psychopaths of one flavor or another (e.g. Zeus, Odin, Ahriman, Allah, Satan, etc.)

    “Normal” people automatically “have” empathy, like it’s an app on their Apple-social brain, despite there being no evidence of empathy as a notable characteristic of neurotypicals. There is tons of evidence for cruelty, narcissism and violence as the basic equipment of social behavior. Dogs and a growing list of animals have been granted the mystical power of empathy. “We” on the other hand, are uncaring, subhuman and defective. It takes some serious intellectual fraud on the part of the psychology industry to come up with that description of reality –
